Bandai Namco Announces Elden Ring Expansion ‘Shadow of the Erdtree’

Just recently, Bandai Namco revealed that FromSoftware’s sensationally popular 2022 open-world RPG, Elden Ring, has surpassed 20 million units in sales. If ever there was a prime time to announce a full-fledged expansion, I reckon it’s just after that brand of mic drop.

Lo and behold, “Shadow of the Erdtree” — a full-fledged expansion — is officially in development. But if you want to know much more than that, I’m afraid you’ll be waiting a bit longer. In a short-but-sweet blog post on Elden Ring‘s Japanese website, FromSoftware said the following:

As with the main story, we plan to distribute it on PlayStation 4 / PlayStation 5 / Xbox One / Xbox Series X|S / Steam.

The follow-up report is still a little ahead, but I would appreciate it if you could look forward to it.

We look forward to your continued support of ELDEN RING.

So, there you go. We know it’s coming, which is fantastic. We sure don’t know much else. At least the blog post was accompanied by a tweet:

“Rise, Tarnished, and let us walk a new path together. An upcoming expansion for Elden Ring, ‘Shadow of the Erdtree,’ is currently in development. We hope you look forward to new adventures in the Lands Between.”

In our review for the game, Bob Richardson gave Elden Ring a downright spectacular 99, calling it (among other wonderful things) “the best Dark Souls game to date.”
