A darker and more mature Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game has been revealed! Polygon interviewed Doug Rosen, Paramount Global’s senior vice president for games and emerging media revealed that a new TMNT title is in developmentāan action RPG based on the recent graphic novel, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin.
The studio developing it has not yet been announced. Rosen compared the gameplay to the most recent God of War games, being in third person with action gameplay. While most TMNT games, like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge, allow you to play as all four turtles, The Last Ronin is planned to be single player, starring just one of the turtles.
To those that don’t know what The Last Ronin graphic novel is about, the premise involves a future where only one of the turtles survives. Master Splinter and three of the turtles were all massacred by the Foot Clan resulting in the surviving one going on a path of revenge. Wearing a black mask and wielding all four of the teenage mutant ninja turtles’ weapons, the surviving turtle’s identity was left ambiguous until the end of the first volume of the graphic novel. Feel free to look up who it is if you are curious, but it might be more exciting to play the game without knowing ahead of time!
Rosen has said to expect more news about The Last Ronin action RPG and other TMNT games in the coming months.
The Last Ronin‘s action RPG is still a few years from being released, but the game is definitely different for the series! I’m personally interested in seeing what comes about with this game. I’m not too huge a fan of darker and grittier settings, but it certainly will be fascinating to see the normally bright and colorful TMNT universe in a more serious light.
Please stay tuned to RPGFan for more turtley news! Especially if it involves RPGs!
