It would be equally true to say that the franchise’s new anime is responsible for the teasing. In case you missed the news, classic protagonist Ash Ketchum’s 26-year anime adventure came to a recent conclusion, and a show called PokémonHorizons: The Series has begun. Horizons premiered in Japan on April 14th — it’s scheduled to debut in the West sometime later this year — and heroine Liko briefly encountered this strange little turtle guy during her debut episode.
A newly discovered Pokémon appears in The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero for Pokémon Scarlet or Pokémon Violet!
Its splendid aura is reminiscent of the Legendary Pokémon Terapagos, but this Pokémon’s name and true nature are shrouded in mystery.
By the official Twitter account’s own admission, the cute blue bud bears a striking resemblance to Terapagos, a mascot legendary for “The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero”. But with over a thousand ‘mons and counting, this is hardly the first time fans have seen one creature and recognized another.
Here’s what the creators have to say on the matter:
[…] Trainers will be able to uncover the mystery behind a newly discovered Pokémon found in The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero, the upcoming downloadable content for the Pokémon Scarlet or Violet video game. It will also appear in the latest animated series, “Pokémon Horizons: The Series,” which recently premiered in Japan before its release around the world starting later this year.
Who’s That Pokémon?! This unknown Pokémon is reminiscent of the Legendary Pokémon Terapagos, but its name and true nature are shrouded in mystery. It is small in stature and not particularly strong, but when push comes to shove, it can crystallize the energy in its body to form a protective shield. Apparently, it can also assume a dormant state when it feels that its life is in danger by pulling its head, limbs, and tail into its shell and making itself look like a jewel.
No word yet on when exactly we’ll be able to get our hands on the expansion’s first part, “The Teal Mask”, but at least we have turtles of two very different sizes awaiting us when we do.
