Rift of the NecroDancer Grooves Onto Nintendo Switch This Year

The NecroDancer series continues on Nintendo Switch with Rift of the NecroDancer! Publisher and developer Brace Yourself Games announced this colorful rhythm game on the latest Nintendo Indie World Showcase; it was previously only announced for PC via Steam.

Crypt of the NecroDancer and Cadence of Hyrule were both games that used rhythm to move along tile-based terrain, but Rift of the NecroDancer seems to be much closer to a traditional rhythm game. There appear to be RPG-like battles along with rhythm minigames in the vein of Rhythm Heaven, which is personally very exciting to me!

Please see below for an overview of the game via the Steam page:

The NecroDancer’s back in a brand new rhythm game spinoff! Help Cadence navigate the modern world while repairing the rifts that have torn her life apart. Do rhythmic battle via rift mode, minigames, and boss battles! All to the beat of a brand new soundtrack from Danny Baranowsky & friends.

Key Features:

  • Rift Mode — A rhythmic battle against streams of monsters pouring out of the Rift!
  • Mini Game Mode — Help Cadence overcome the challenges of the modern world via rhythmic mini games!
  • Boss Battles Mode — Defeat powerful bosses using a one-two punch, to the rhythm of the beat!
  • A brand new soundtrack from Danny Baranowsky and collaborators!
  • Mod support, online leaderboards, and more!

Being on an Indie World Showcase means there’s a trailer for your viewing pleasure as well!

Rift of the NecroDancer is looking to be a great time! As I stated above, I’m especially excited about the Rhythm Heaven-like minigames. If you’re interested in this series but have yet to try it out, please go ahead and check out our reviews of Crypt of the NecroDancer by Bob Richardson and Cadence of Hyrule by Jonathan Logan. Both were very well-liked by our staff!

As always, please stay tuned to RPGFan for continued coverage of RPGs, rhythm and all!
