Despite a troubled development cycle, Granblue Fantasy: Relink is finally shaping into a real game. During Sony’s recent PlayStation Showcase, CyGames debuted a new trailer and a release window: winter 2023. General Director Tetsuya Fukuhara also elaborated on the game’s multiplayer and two new characters.
Before we get started, check out the new trailer below:
Granblue Fantasy: Relink is an action RPG that utilizes a four-person party system in battles. You can either team up with your friends or solo your quests with AI companions. The tide of battle can change based on your party’s skills and weapons.
The new trailer showcases two new characters to your team: Zeta and Vaseraga. They join a team of sixteen fighters to mix and match to your own style. According to the director, fans can expect more characters to join their arsenal later on.
Tetsuya Fukuhara describes the game and introduces the new characters via the PlayStation Blog:
Granblue Fantasy: Relink takes place in the Sky Realm, where myriad islands float in a great blue expanse. The protagonist, joined by a scrappy little dragon named Vyrn and a young girl with mysterious powers named Lyria, sails for Estalucia, a fabled island beyond the end of the skies. Along the way, they meet a colorful cast of characters, adding kings and misfits alike to their ragtag crew.
The events of Relink take place in Zegagrande Skydom. In this corner of the world, islands are guarded by powerful creatures known as primal beasts and winds carry tales of a secretive organization known as the Church of Avia. Through their adventures, the protagonists unveil a web of intrigue reaching far beyond the borders of Zegagrande and engage in a battle for the fate of the Sky Realm itself.
Zeta’s fiery personality is matched only by her combat style. Nimble and dynamic, she dances around her foes, devastating them with the magical spear Arvess.
Vaseraga’s massive bulk makes him near impervious to damage. He charges the battlefield like a bull, mowing down foes with Great Scythe Grynoth.
Granblue Fantasy: Relink will launch for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and PC via Steam. This game is only one part of the Granblue Fantasy franchise. Previously, a fighting game called Granblue Fantasy: Versus launched with an RPG mode. You can check out our review by alumnus Alana Hagues. Stay tuned to RPGFan for more Granblue Fantasy!
