Bandai Namco Entertainment and developer ILCA have announced Sand Land, an upcoming action RPG revealed during Summer Games Fest 2023. Based on Akira Toriyama’s (Dragon Ball, Dr Slump) manga of the same name, the trailer promises a rollicking good time replete with myriad vehicles, hijinks, and the ever-demanding search for water in quasi-cowboy country. Check it out below!

Sand Land will release on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and, as seen above, promises a bounty of characters to meet and places to explore, recreated in Toryima’s thick-lined and bold signature art style.

Players will take on the role of protagonist Beelzebub as they explore a “…vast world…” while traveling on foot or in a vehicle alongside a party of both humans and demons. Bandai Namco Entertainment has promised that vehicle and character-based combat is a cornerstone of Sand Land‘s design, where players will have “…access to a variety of vehicles that they can customize and equip with loadouts to traverse the desert, overcome obstacles, and take on a diverse assortment of mighty foes.” A further detailed synopsis of Sand Land lies below!

Sand Land Overview

Dive into a desert world where both humans and demons suffer from an extreme water shortage. Play as and watch the Fiend Prince, Beelzebub, Sheriff Rao and demon Thief set off on an adventure in search of a Legendary Spring hidden in the desert.

In this action RPG, you become the main character as Beelzebub. Lead your company of heroic misfits and explore the legendary world of SAND LAND developed by the creator of Dragon Ball & Dr. Slump, Akira Toriyama.

Use your tact and imagination to develop tanks and other vehicles for your adventures utilizing a wide array of part combinations. Build up your base of operations into a thriving city with the help of the people you meet along the way in the vast desert

Never in my wildest days did I think the short-form manga series of Sand Land would receive a video game adaption, but I’m overjoyed to be proven wrong on all accounts. Perhaps it will reignite a niche in the RPG genre that focuses on overland vehicle combat and fold it back into the mainstream. A man can only hope…
