The recent Nintendo Direct showcased a brand new Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope DLC titled The Last Spark Hunter. While not necessarily the most noteworthy of news during the Direct, it’s still pretty exciting for those that enjoy this crazy X-COM style crossover strategy RPG! The Nintendo and Ubisoft crossover is still going surprisingly strong, isn’t it? The best thing about this announcement is that you won’t have to wait too long; as it’s already here!

Here’s an overview of the DLC (worth $14.99 USD) from the Nintendo eShop!

Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope – The Last Spark Hunter Overview

Land in the Melodic Gardens, an enchanting new planet that was once harmoniously pulsing with the sweetest music. Meet its wild inhabitants, explore its musical jungle and mysterious ruins, and sail through the vast sea and sparkling lakes. But tread carefully, as Kanya and other new powerful enemies await Mario, Rabbid Peach, and their friends.

– Explore a brand-new exotic planet filled with mysteries and new characters that will lead the team toward exciting quests.
– Face new tactical challenges, including new combat mechanisms and new enemies.
– Recruit up to five new Sparks, discover and develop their powers, and build the strongest team ever.
– Embark on a boat to sail through the Melodic Garden sea and lakes.
– Face Kanya, the last Spark Hunter, and her Mecha King Bob-Omb in epic boss fights.

And obviously, with a Nintendo Direct, there’s always a trailer attached!

While I don’t personally have much experience with Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope or the series in general, our wonderful staff sure does! I’ve always heard that it’s a surprisingly good strategy RPG, and our reviews certainly seem to affirm that! Nathan Lee’s review of Kingdom Battle and Abraham Kobylanski’s review of Sparks of Hope both speak in high regard for the tactical gameplay. I’m certainly very interested in trying them both myself (especially since they are both in my ever-growing backlog) as a lover of SRPGs, and our staff write-ups certainly push them up my to-play list!

Please stay tuned to RPGFan for continued Nintendo Direct and unhinged—or should I say Rabbid— crossover RPGs!
