Another Crab’s Treasure Scuttling to Consoles and PC in 2024

Indie developer Aggro Crab is bringing their long-awaited Souls-like Another Crab’s Treasure to Xbox One and Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC in 2024! This “shellslike” adventure game will also be available on Game Pass on its release day. Check out the Xbox Game Pass reveal trailer below.

I never thought I’d see what might be described as a crossover between SpongeBob SquarePants and Dark Souls, but Another Crab’s Treasure is full of surprises. The game is set in a crumbling — yet beautifully illustrated — underwater world plagued by a mysterious curse. You’re Kril the hermit crab, and you’re on a quest to get to the bottom of the dark secrets plaguing your ocean world and score enough treasure to buy back your repossessed shell.

In place of his missing shell, Kril uses trash as a shell to attack and defend against his many underwater foes. The game promises more than 50 unique “shells,” which sounds like a whole lot of gameplay variety. You can spot a few different shells in this latest trailer, and it’d be an understatement to call them clever — the discarded chopsticks and banana peel being chief among them!

Aggro Crab is best known for Going Under, a hugely popular satirical dungeon crawler about exploring the cursed ruins of failed tech startups. It’s safe to expect Another Crab’s Treasure to bear the studio’s distinctive sense of humor, and I’m looking forward to it.

Here’s more on Another Crab’s Treasure, courtesy of its Steam page:

Another Crab’s Treasure is a soulslike adventure set in a crumbling underwater world. As Kril the hermit crab, you’ll need to wear the trash around you as shells to withstand attacks from enemies many times your size. Embark on an epic treasure hunt to buy back your repossessed shell, and discover the dark secrets behind the polluted ocean.

In this undersea society, trash is not only a way of life, but a valuable resource, used for everything from fashion to firearms. But with the presence of trash comes a mysterious infection known as the Gunk, which could spell doom for the entire ocean.

As Kril explores the ocean, he’ll gain a variety of Umami Techniques—powerful attacks learned from the denizens of the seas. Punch your enemies with the overwhelming might of a Mantis Shrimp, ensnare them with the horrifying Bobbit Worm, and much more.

The ocean goes deeper than one can imagine. Fight your way through kelp forests, coral reefs, sand castle cities, and even the unfathomable darkness of the deep-sea trenches, all in the name of getting back your prized shell.

Designed to be an approachable experience for newer soulslike players as well as provide a challenge for hardcore fans, Another Crab’s Treasure offers something for any level of skill or time commitment. Assist options are provided for those seeking a less frustrating experience, but gluttons for punishment are sure to find the default game a challenge.

  • Challenging soulslike-inspired combat
  • A grand undersea world to explore
  • Over 50 shells to try on and fend off attackers
  • A variety of powerful Umami Abilities to smite your enemies
  • Way Too Many Crabs
