Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes, Rabbit and Bear Studios’ spiritual successor to the cult classic Suikoden series, has been delayed from its planned 2023 release window to Q2 2024. Helping to ease this disappointing development, Publisher 505 Games offered up almost three minutes of new gameplay footage for the upcoming turn-based RPG as part of the latest Kickstarter backer update!

“The decision was made in order to ensure the best possible story, and to reward the legion of backers with the best game experience possible,” the dev team said in that update. CEO Yoshitaka Murayama, best known for his work as a producer and director of several Suikoden titles, added that he already completed the game’s story and its DLC(!), and he’s now working on setting material and supervising text.

The dev team teased that they hope to have another update on Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes around the time of the Tokyo Game Show 2023, scheduled for September 21st through the 24th. Junko Kawano, the game’s character illustrator and another Suikoden veteran, also unveiled new illustrations of three new returning characters from prequel Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising — CJ, Isha, and Garoo, whose portraits you can check out in the newest Kickstarter backer update.

If you’re unfamiliar with Kawano’s stunning work, the trailer for the game released during last year’s Tokyo Game Show does a great job of showing it off:

Between the new footage, updates, and illustrations, it’s clear that Rabbit and Bear Studios is in the final stretch of production for Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes. All our collective fingers at RPGFan are crossed that this game lives up to, or exceeds, the high bar set by Suikoden, and we’re relieved to see that it’s in good hands and seems to be shaping up quite well so far.

Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes is slated to release on PC, PlayStation 4 & 5, Xbox One and Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch. We’re huge Suikoden fans here at RPGFan, so stick with us for the latest on all things Eiyuden Chronicle!
