Square Enix mobile game NieR Re[in]carnation will end on April 29th, a month after its final story update “The People and the World Act III: Transmigration”. The publisher announced the closure (see below) via the official NieR Re[in]carnation X/Twitter page, where it linked to a detailed summary and timeline for the end-of-service content. Players will receive bonuses to various daily and quest rewards, which hopefully allows dedicated players to fully experience all end-game content without needing to excessively grind.
This announcement comes after a recent string of mobile and live-service games receiving end-of-service notices. Alongside NieR Re[in]carnation, Square Enix previously announced that three other mobile games will end service in Q1 2024: Dragon Quest Tact on January 29th, Dissidia Final Fantasy: Opera Omnia on February 29th, and Fullmetal Alchemist Mobile on March 29th.
Is this evidence of an industry shift away from gacha and mobile gaming? Or perhaps the model will just be retooled to entice a wider range of players to spend their cash on these types of games. RPGFan will continue to update its readers on impending closures and the state of mobile RPG gaming as a whole.
