At the beginning of the game, players will be able to choose either the male or female protagonist to play as, threading their journey from the stars into an ocean far beyond what they knew. Wuthering Waves puts players in the position of a so-called Rover 100 years past a calamity known as the Calament. Strange creatures accosted the world during the upheaval, splintering both the land and its societies in destruction and chaos. Newly washed up on shores unknown, the Rover must contend with this fractured world, finding connections amongst its inhabitants as they figure out who they are and what place they have in it.
