Another day, another tease of a new project from the creative minds behind the NieR series.
The latest issue of Weekly Famitsu featured a conversation between Yosuke Saito, Square Enix executive officer and NieR series producer, and Hiroyuki Kobayashi, GPTRACK50 Studio president and former Capcom producer. In it, Saito stated that he’s currently working on a new project with NieR creator Yoko Taro and composer Keiichi Okabe.
His exact words were:
I’ve been talking about wanting to do something with Yoko and Okabe for some time now. I’ll have something a bit more put-together to say in the not-too-distant future, so please stay tuned. It might be NieR, it might not be NieR. (Laughs.) That’s about all I can say for now.
I’m doing various things with the idea of creating something that does not yet exist,” Saito said. “I can’t devote my time to that fully, so most of it has been left to the staff, but it’s turning into something quite interesting. I’m looking forward to the day we can announce it.
His words are the most confusing thing to set expectations for. I hate to set myself up for disappointment, but I’d also be lying if I said I wasn’t hoping for a new series entry. NieR was released in 2010, and its sequel NieR: Automata launched in 2017. NieR Replicant ver.1.22474487139… and NieR Re[in]carnation came out in 2021. We’re coming up on three years since the last release in the series now.
So, fingers crossed! Whatever they come up with, we’ll surely report it here. Stay tuned to RPGFan for developments on this story!
