Arguably the most RPG-packed summer gaming showcase last weekend was Sunday’s Xbox Games Show. Names like Dragon Age, Starfield, and Fable were among the heaviest hitters, but Bethesda Game Studios, ever present, announced the release of “Appalachia’s first ever map expansion” for Fallout 76: Skyline Valley. In a fitting tribute to the biggest summer gaming showcase weekend, the countdown is on, as the new content is set to launch in less than 24 hours for PC, Xbox and PlayStation.
Despite what the oddly cheery marshmallow mascot above would have us believe, Fallout 76 has had a… mixed reception (especially here at the site); but by most accounts has rebounded from an utterly disastrous launch and established a dedicated fanbase.
Most recently, the Fallout series received a surge in popularity from Amazon’s well regarded season of premium television and we encourage you to check out both our Retro Encounter and Random Encounter podcasts that have engaged in recent discussions surrounding the series.
As always, for those that missed it, you can check out the trailer from this weekends showcase below, some brief overview details (via Bethesda’s official website), as well as the first official Fallout 76: Skyline Valley screenshots.
In the game’s first major expansion of the world map, you’ll cross the Savage Divide and travel to the southern reaches of Appalachia. This picturesque new region introduces new locations to explore among the woodlands once known as real world Shenandoah National Park.
Seek out the real location of Vault 63 and uncover its mysteries. Learn the truth about the Lost, the electric Ghouls that inhabit the Vault, and their enigmatic overseer, Hugo Stolz. What is causing the electrical storm looming over Skyline Valley? You’ll chase storms in a new Public Event, Dangerous Pastimes, and fight new region bosses, a monumental trifecta of Robo-brains. Only daredevils need apply.
