Wuchang: Fallen Feathers, a Souls-like Game That Ain’t Nothin’ to Mess With

The Wuchang: Fallen Feathers protagonist steps back to dodge an incoming attack

Chinese developer Leenzee and publisher 505 Games have announced Wuchang: Fallen Feathers, a dark and dreary Souls-like action RPG.

The latest from 505 Games immerses players in a dark fantasy version of the late Ming Dynasty, a period rife with warring factions and a mysterious illness turning humans into monstrous creatures. You are Wuchang, a pirate warrior struck by amnesia and afflicted by the horrific disease, which is conveniently also a source of immense power.

If Leenzee’s website is to be believed, its hard not to get “super dark Mulan vibes” from Wuchang’s character bio. Regardless, she will need to battle against grotesque abominations, piece together her lost memories, and make choices that will lead to one of several endings—each determined by the choices made, secrets unearthed, and the allies made.

As per usual, you can find the Wuchang: Fallen Feathers announcement trailer below, along with some overview details (via 505 Games) and the latest screenshots.

Wuchang: Fallen Feathers Overview

A darkness has befallen the land of Shu, and a phenomenon known as Ornithropy is causing mutations. Thrown into an epidemic of plague and monsters, you will have to overcome cruel and twisted enemies with various fighting styles, hidden weapons, ancient firearms, and even the power of Ornithropy to forge a path through flesh and blood towards the truth buried beneath it all.

Key Features

Diabolical Boss Fights – Your path is fraught with danger, pitting you against grotesque beasts, spectral foes, and your own inner demons. Prepare for vicious boss fights with multiple phases that will test your resolve and will to endure.

Arsenal Against the Darkness – Players can choose from powerful double-handed axes or nimble dual one-handed blades, among others. Every weapon category comes with an extensive set of skills, encouraging players to experiment and master different techniques to suit their preferred combat style.

Shape the Open World – While you are navigating through interconnected open world environments you will discover chisel fragments and journal scraps that change the story and lead to one of several potential endings.

Shadow of the Dynasty – Immerse yourself in a dark retelling of the late Ming Dynasty through numerous in-game cutscenes, NPC interactions, and collectible items. Wuchang: Fallen Feathers incorporates real historical figures from the Ming Dynasty. Characters like Zhang Xianzhong and Li Dingguo appear in the game, providing a unique blend of historical authenticity and fantastical storytelling.

OST by Anti-General – The soundtrack, composed by Anti-General, blends grand ancient melodies with modern electronic elements, enhancing the overall atmosphere and drawing players deeper into the world of Shu.

Will you reveal the truths of Wuchang’s curse and bring peace to Shu, or will you succumb to the encroaching horrors? The fate of the land rests in your hands.

Kyle is just embarking on his main quest at RPGFan and couldn't be more excited to join the team. He discovered the RPGFan community a couple of years ago and, after growing up in Western Canada as a "jock," was thrilled to realize that there were others in the world who learned roman numerals as a teenager thanks to the Final Fantasy series. Contributing to the news team is his main objective at the site and it is his goal to project the confidence of Ron Burgundy while keeping everyone from realizing he might just be Brick Tamland.
