Sequel to Commodore 64 Classic Beyond the Ice Palace Unveiled

Beyond the Ice Palace 2 protagonist swings his chains overhead

Publisher PQube (Class of Heroes 1 & 2: Complete Edition) and developer STORYBIRD Studio broke the mold (and many of our brains) when they announced Beyond the Ice Palace 2, an unexpected sequel to the 1988 Commodore 64 platformer Beyond the Ice Palace. There simply aren’t many companies out there willing to invest in making sequels to near-36-year-old Commodore 64 games, let alone convert them into super slick Metroidvanias.

In Beyond the Ice Palace 2, players take control of a “Cursed King”, arisen from the dead and looking to uncover secrets and banish big-time bosses to reclaim what is rightfully theirs. The latest trailer (below), which aired during the Guerilla Collective Showcase 2024, shows off fast-paced gameplay, various enemies, and more.

A firm release date is still unknown, but a Steam announcement indicates that Beyond the Ice Palace 2 will launch later in 2024 on PlayStation 5 and 4, Xbox Series X|S and One, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam, the Epic Games Store, and GOG.

Scroll past the trailer for a synopsis and some screenshots.
