Get Your (Candy) Corn Ready: Dragon Age: The Veilguard Drops October 31st

Dragon Age: The Veilguard's protagonist and companions confront an elder god

June 9th was the day the world learned that Dragon Age: The Veilguard, the latest in BioWare’s epic dark fantasy series, was targeting a Fall 2024 release date. I began that news article by praising the Maker, and I begin this one by praising Dragon Age fans everywhere: We did it fam. We made it. We’re on the home stretch: Dragon Age: The Veilguard releases October 31st, 2024 for PlayStation, Xbox and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store.

This week’s epic new trailer (below) picks up where Zach Wilkerson’s excellent first hour impressions of the game left off, revealing the aftermath of Solas’ interrupted ritual and confirming months of speculation and community investigation: the corrupted old elven gods are loose.

Over the course of the nearly three-minute trailer, Dragon Age fans are treated to the appearances and voices of series favourites Morrigan (who’s appropriately apocalyptic) and Varric (who’s appropriately tongue-in-cheek encouraging). Each Veilguard companion is given a little screen time as well as a peek into their character.

Neve looks to be in control of Eluvian (time travelling mirror) technology, Davrin spouts the sacred Warden words of duty (plus Assan, the goodest griffon-boy, gets in on the action), Lucanis has wings (!?), Harding has some special power that she doesn’t know what to do with (can dwarves cast magic now!?), Belara has some interest/expertise in ancient artifacts, and Emmrich and Teash reveal moments where their expertise in the undead and dragon hunting respectively will be key.

Check it all out below along with a fresh summary from EA and BioWare. Maker knows, we’ve earned it (note: mild story spoilers in trailer).

In Dragon Age: The Veilguard, players will step into the role of Rook, a fully-customizable protagonist who must rise up, unite their crew and become the hero Thedas needs in a time where legends are born or slain. Joining Rook in their fight against corrupt Elven gods is a cast of seven compelling companions, each of whom hails from an iconic faction from Dragon Age lore. In addition to their own personal storylines and motivations, companions Bellara, Davrin, Emmrich, Harding, Lucanis, Neve and Taash all bring unique combat abilities and equipment to the fray, which Rook must strategically implement in their fight for the future of Thedas.

BioWare has employed a pretty systematic rollout of their next big project with things like the voice cast announcement and a fairly large presence at San Diego Comic Con. If you’re someone who wants to know the next stops for the Dragon Age: The Veilguard hype train, the Upcoming Reveals timeline below will be of interest:

Dragon Age: The Veilguard continues to look like one of the biggest titles of the fall and releases worldwide on October 31st for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC (via Steam and Epic Games Store.)
