Publisher Playstack and developer LocalThunk have released a free update for the poker-themed roguelike Balatro that features crossover content with The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt and Dave The Diver, as well as Among Us and Vampire Survivors. The Friends of Jimbo update was announced at the latest Nintendo Indie World Showcase with a stylish trailer, showcasing what players might expect when divers and witchers come to the table to play.
Balatro: Friends of Jimbo – Reveal Trailer
As seen above, the update brings cosmetic changes and new themed cards to Balatro, giving players more visual flair to their cards and decks to beat the dreaded Ante. Friends of Jimbo is also one of two major surprises for Balatro this summer, to be followed by major DLC in 2025.
Balatro is a roguelike deck-builder themed after poker, where players will create synergies between hands drawn from a regular 52 cards in a deck alongside a collection of themed Joker cards. The Jokers change the way the game is played, and players can find strategies that will secure them the largest score through pure maths, ingenuity, and a little luck.

It’s often awesome to see crossovers between beloved RPG properties into something deeply enjoyable and Balatro fits that bill. As someone who put over 30 hours into the game earlier this year, I can’t wait to dip my toes back into this update and see how it changes the game.
