In this edition of RPGs Coming This Week, another mega-hit gets a much-ballyhooed expansion, plus a few solid indie titles debut. And also Dragon Quest! It’s a solid mix of games, so let’s get our metaphorical hands in this metaphorical grab bag, shall we?
Persona 3 Reload: Episode Aigis – September 10th (PS5, XSX, PS4, XB1, Windows)
The final chapter of Persona 3 Reload is here. Episode Aigis, which comes as part of a cosmetics and BGM-stuffed expansion pass, is a remake of The Answer epilogue from Persona 3: FES. It’s all about Aigis (natch) as she searches for answers (also natch) after the dramatic end to the main game. If you missed the S.E.E.S. gang, well, this is not to be missed.
As for me, I’m doubly excited for the new remixes of the Tartarus exploration themes from FES. Here’s a preview of “Time Castle“. Scott did a fantastic preview piece on Episode Aigis, with a video that’s well worth a watch if you haven’t yet.

Mirthwood – September 11th (Windows)
It takes a lot for life sim RPGs to stand out nowadays, but here comes Mirthwood with one of the more striking takes on the concept to date. The aesthetic is quite pleasant; it’s got a painterly look to it that really helps set it apart.
Mirthwood sets you up as someone looking to start from scratch after escaping a war. It’s a medieval fantasy world, so magical creatures like werewolves are on the table. As with any life sim RPG, fighting and collecting loot are important, but equally so are farming, crafting, fishing (coming in a later update), and romancing. Developer Bad Ridge Games plans to introduce various new features in the coming months, leading up to a DLC expansion next year.

Celestia: Chain of Fate – September 12th (Switch, Windows)
Celestia: Chain of Fate is a light fantasy visual novel with romantic undertones. Players take on the role of Aria, a young woman who discovers she’s actually the offspring of a forbidden romance between a high-ranking Daemon (demon) and Angelus (angel). Because of this, she has to attend Celestia Academy, a magic university, to learn to control her newfound powers as well as discover her place within reality’s three realms. With potential loves and rivals around every corner, can Aria figure out how to overcome the unknown trials awaiting her?
Celestia: Chain of Fate has an interesting narrative premise, plus there’s a rather eye-catching visual appeal alongside a very welcoming and accessible UI. I’ve been curious about this VN for a while now, and the otome-adjacent fan in me is looking forward to its release with it coming this week!

Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince – September 11th (Windows, iOS, Android)
Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince is coming this week to PC via Steam, as well as iOS and Android, after launching on Switch last year. This is something of a revival of DQ‘s monster tamer spinoff series, and if Audra’s review indicates anything, it looks like a pretty successful one.
