Black Myth: Wukong Sales Ain’t Nothin’ to Mess With; Expansion in Development

Just two weeks after Black Myth: Wukong‘s release, the Journey to the West retelling has totaled more than 18 million in sales, according to an interview with significant Game Science shareholder Daniel Wu as reported by Gematsu.

Gematsu also shared that an expansion is in the works for the Chinese action RPG. It’s great to see a title with an anthropomorphic protagonist do so well, but this latest news shouldn’t be all that surprising considering that Wukong sold more than ten million copies in its first three days.

We loved Black Myth: Wukong, and if you’re not one of the millions of players who have already stepped into the shoes of The Destined One, we encourage you to check it out, especially if you are looking to get into the Souls-like genre or enjoy historical fiction.

During a recent episode of Random Encounter, Jono Logan and Jerry Williams discussed the latter’s review of this “first AAA video game ever developed in China,” as well as whether this is a one-off situation or a harbinger of things to come from the world’s largest exporter.

Jerry’s review draws lofty gameplay comparisons to the Nioh franchise and features a typical quality breakdown of what the game has to offer. His bottom line?

A massive success from an up-and-coming studio, Black Myth: Wukong will hold your attention most of the way through with variety in gameplay, storytelling, characters, and level design.

Kyle is just embarking on his main quest at RPGFan and couldn't be more excited to join the team. He discovered the RPGFan community a couple of years ago and, after growing up in Western Canada as a "jock," was thrilled to realize that there were others in the world who learned roman numerals as a teenager thanks to the Final Fantasy series. Contributing to the news team is his main objective at the site and it is his goal to project the confidence of Ron Burgundy while keeping everyone from realizing he might just be Brick Tamland.
