International Podcast Day: Our Favorite 2024 Podcasts

International Podcast Day 2024

As everyone knows, September 30th is International Podcast Day. Or maybe this is news to you like it was to some of us! In any case, we are proud of our three podcasts here at RPGFan, and strive to make every episode of Retro Encounter, Random Encounter, and Rhythm Encounter into something you enjoy. So we decided, in honor of this day, to highlight some of our personal favorite episodes from each show. Whether you want to re-listen, or — even better — share a link with friends to encourage them to listen, here are some of our favorite podcast episodes of the last twelve months. You can find all of our shows over on our Podcasts page.

In the US, apparently it’s also National Hot Mulled Cider Day, but we don’t have any mulled cider content to share, so you can see why we went the way we did. But I won’t stop you from curling up with a hot drink and even hotter RPGFan podcast content, either.

Retro Encounter

RPGFan’s weekly podcast of many topics, Retro Encounter features a monthly two-part game journal on classic RPGs, and all manner of interesting episodes and topics around those. Beyond publishing a remarkable 400+ episodes, 2024 featured special guests, another fantastic quiz show, and many classic game journals.

Rhythm Encounter

Our bi-weekly RPG music podcast covered a lot of ground this year, with a thought-provoking “build your own soundtrack” episode, several console celebrations (PSP, GBA, DS), and much more.

Our panelists attempted to”build” a cohesive RPG soundtrack by assembling core RPG songs like towns and dungeons from eight separate games. Somehow, it worked!
