Today, Square Enix and Lightspeed Studios revealed Final Fantasy XIV Mobile, which is precisely what it sounds like: a mobile version of Square Enix’s hit MMORPG. To put any fan concerns to rest, this is not a mobile client for the existing game. FFXIV Mobile has been rebuilt specifically for mobile devices, and looks to focus on A Realm Reborn to start, based on the reveal trailer. Speaking of which, let’s look at it!

Beyond introducing the video above, Final Fantasy XIV Producer and Director, Naoki Yoshida had this to say on this new version that will exist alongside the existing game:
It has been 11 years sinceĀ FFXIV 2.0: A Realm RebornĀ launched, and this new mobile game will be a sister to FFXIV, aiming to recreate the grandeur of the original’s story and combat mechanics on mobile devices. Non-combat features, such as Disciples of the Land and Hand, will also be faithfully implemented and we look forward to growing alongside the passionate FFXIV community.
The official press release goes on to detail a little more about Lightspeed Studios (known for co-developing PUBG Mobile alongside KRAFTON) and their approach to this project, that is, according to the game’s website, “officially licensed and supervised by Square Enix:”
LIGHTSPEED STUDIOS has gone to great lengths to ensure FINAL FANTASY XIV MOBILE faithfully recreates the original game’s award-winning gameplay and story experience. FINAL FANTASY XIV MOBILE retains lifestyle content such as fishing, Triple Triad, and chocobo racing. Additionally, players can immerse themselves in the meticulously crafted visual experience that defines Eorzea on mobile. Visual elementsā from the intricate weather and time-of-day systems which offer over 600 different weather patterns across various landscapesāto player character and equipment designs have been painstakingly crafted and optimized to bring the detail of the original game to life.
As a globally renowned online RPG,Ā FINAL FANTASY XIV OnlineĀ has won the hearts of players not only with its epic storytelling, theatrical combat, and diverse range of casual activities but also with its unique, welcoming social atmosphere. FINAL FANTASY XIV MOBILEĀ carries forward this signature social experience, embracing an ethos of genuine, low-pressure interactions. The core of the social experience inĀ FINAL FANTASY XIV MOBILEĀ is sincerity, with no imposed social goals or forced engagements. Whether itās a mentor helping out a beginner, a party of friends, or strangers crossing paths in Eorzea, they can always build genuine and meaningful friendships.
As a long-time fan of FFXIV, I am very interested to see how the UI of the game is being reimagined for not only a small screen, but touchscreens as well. Visually, Final Fantasy XIV Mobile seems faithful to its Source, so we’ll be keeping an eye on this mobile reflection to see how it evolves. Here’s a look at some first screens:

Final Fantasy XIV Mobile doesn’t have a precise release date yet, but will first be available to demo across multiple play tests in China. A global launch will then follow. The game’s official website has also launched, and while it’s sparse at the moment, offers links to sign up for more into and follow on several social media platforms. Pre-registration info is apparently also coming soon.
When there’s more to know about FFXIV Mobile, we will be sure to keep you in the loop! In the meantime, I hope you’re having a good time adventuring across Eorzea (and beyond) in Patch 7.1 – Crossroads!
