Okay, hear me out: Pokémon, but you replace the various creatures with giant robots. Now what if instead of battling giant robots, you get dancing giant robots?

Steel Century Groove is a cocktail of all these things and more! Launching in 2025, this rhythm RPG comes from solo developer Andrew Gaubatz, aka Sloth Gloss Games. He’s an experienced programmer with titles like Torchlight III and Star Wars: Uprising under his belt.

Begin your mecha dance battle journey in the announcement trailer below:

Why are these death machines dancing instead of killing? Read on to find out why.

Thousands of years ago, humanity built colossal war machines to stop the apocalypse. Now they just use them for dance battles. In Steel Century Groove, you’ll assemble a squad of mecha dancers, challenge every rival you lock eyes with, compete for the championship trophy, and uncover the secrets of a world where everything moves to the drumbeat of steel feet.

Features

  • Groove to the built-in soundtrack or bring your own MP3s.
  • Unlike other rhythm games, Steel Century Groove doesn’t demand a specific button press for each note. Instead, choose the best moves to defeat your opponent.
  • Each mech has a unique set of moves with their own mechanics and resources. A simple starter mech builds and spends energy, while later mechs have you maintaining an army of drones or swapping between cards in a mini deck builder.
  • Customize your character and explore a post-post-apocalyptic world from coast to coast.
  • Dig into a rich story full of humor, charm, and heart. What does it mean to turn an ancient weapon of war into a game?
