About Benyamin Nuss
Benyamin Nuss was born in Bergisch Gladbach, Germany. He began playing the piano at age 6 and was taught and supported by his then teacher Viktor Langemann. His father, internationally renowned jazz trombonist Ludwig Nuss, was also a significant musical influence on him. Growing up in a nurturing environment, he was exposed to music from diverse genres. Later, inspired by “Doctor Gradus ad Parnassum” from “Children’s Corner”, he began at the age of ten to study the composer Claude Debussy, and soon after, the works of Maurice Ravel.
While studying classical piano with Ilja Scheps, Nuss played in various jazz bands and continued his self-studies in composition. Through his versatility as a pianist and composer, Nuss was featured as a soloist around the world with orchestras like the London Symphony Orchestra and the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra and recorded numerous albums under his name, including two solo albums with the renowned label Deutsche Grammophon. As a composer, he published his first album with entirely original compositions in 2017 and has written music for several festivals and soloists. Last year, his first orchestral work, a concerto for harmonica, piano, and chamber orchestra, was successfully premiered in venues such as the Gewandhaus Leipzig and the Oetker-Halle Bielefeld.
Since 2009, Nuss has also been an integral part of the game music scene as a performer, appearing in acclaimed productions such as Symphonic Fantasies, Final Symphony, Distant Worlds, and the Kingdom Hearts World Tour. Throughout his career, he has worked alongside legendary composers like Nobuo Uematsu, Masashi Hamauzu, Yoko Shimomura, and many more.
The NieR: Piano Journeys album, featuring 10 tracks from across the series, launches April 16th.
