Climbing the corporate ladder can be very tiring, especially post-apocalypse. Like with most things, adding in giant robots makes the process a whole lot more bearable. What I’ve just described only touches the surface of Hello Sunshine, a new survival RPG from Dreamfall Chapters and Dustborndeveloper Red Thread Games.
Watch the protagonist hang out and survive with their giant robot friend in the reveal trailer below:
The player character and their giant robot have a symbiotic relationship as they venture through a hostile land. The robot casts a shadow that protects from the unbearable heat, while it can be looked after with repairs and upgrades. Co-op is available, but not in a conventional way: two players can plan out runs to scavenge for materials, trade and more.
For more about the new corporate position that comes with a giant robot friend, here’s part of Red Thread Games’ description of Hello Sunshine, as found on their website.
Hello Sunshine Overview
You play the final employee of a corporate conglomerate.
During the scorching days, you walk in the shadow of a towering war machine. Scavenge for supplies, avoid deadly drones, and search for answers to the mystery.
When the sun sets and the robot stops to charge, you make camp, craft new gear, and repair your mechanical guardian. But the wasteland is freezing cold at night. You must stay close to the robot to keep warm.
Scavenge, craft, upgrade to get you through another day on the road — and piece together the broken puzzle of a world ruled by machines that refuse to shut down. Your destination: the impossibly tall tower on the horizon, where humanity’s fate will be decided.
The journey is long. You won’t make it on your own. As the sun rises on another day, the robot starts walking. Follow — and stay alive until the end of the road.
And remember: a good employee gets the best perks.
Walk in the shadow of a giant robot.
The sun is your enemy. The robot’s shadow provides protection from the heat and radiation. Stay in the shade or risk exposure — but the further into the wasteland you venture, the greater the rewards.
Survive the freezing nights.
The wasteland turns bitterly cold after sundown. When the robot stops to recharge at a Sunshine Service Station, you must stay close to keep warm. Make camp, cook food, craft new gear, upgrade your equipment, and keep an eye out for visiting strangers — for looks may deceive.
Repair, customise, and upgrade your mobile base.
The robot is more than a companion — it’s your lifeline. Repair damaged parts. Enhance it with improved sensors, defensive systems, and upgrades. Add decals and personal touches, even a fresh coat of paint.
Build a lasting relationship with the robot.
At first, the colossus barely acknowledges you. Over time, your bond strengthens. Assist the robot with repairs, install upgrades, and unlock new ways to interact. In return, the metal giant will aid you on your journey — identifying secrets buried in the wasteland, lifting you past obstacles, shielding you from threats, fighting back against hostile war machines, and perhaps sharing its own stories.
