If you’re on RPGFan, I’m going to go out on a limb and assume I don’t need to introduce you to Final Fantasy VII Remake, but it IS a game Switch players have missed out on. During today’s Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, Square Enix revealed plans to bring Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade to the new console.

You can see the segment in the Nintendo Direct video here:

Because adding “Intergrade” onto the title isn’t confusing on its own, Final Fantasy VII Intergrade is so named because it includes the base Final Fantasy VII game and the story DLC featuring everyone’s favorite Wutai ninja, titled Episode INTERmission. Some of us just like titling things, you know? Kind of like it would be excessive to title a quoted press release:

Final Fantasy VII Intergrade, Episode INTERmission: The Heading

In FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE INTERGRADE, players follow the story of ex-SOLDIER operative turned mercenary, Cloud Strife, as he lends his aid to the underground resistance group Avalanche in the mako-powered city of Midgar. In the fight against the shadowy Shinra Electric Power Company, Cloud and his comrades are thrust into a larger conflict to determine the fate of the planet. FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE INTERGRADE also includes an exhilarating original story arc, FF7R EPISODE INTERmission, which brings Wutai ninja Yuffie Kisaragi to the forefront as she infiltrates the city of Midgar during the events of the base game.

Unlike Square Enix’s other announcement today, Bravely Default: Flying Fairy HD Remaster, which releases alongside the Switch 2 on June 5th, 2025, the Switch 2 edition of Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade is currently only listed as “in development” and doesn’t yet have a release date. So we’ll be on the lookout for that, and based on the video and Director Naoki Hamaguchi’s comment of “Please look forward to more updates on the Final Fantasy VII remake project for Switch 2,” one could imagine Rebirth and the final game in the trilogy may yet make it to Nintendo’s console.

Whatever the future holds for the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy on Nintendo Switch 2, we’ll keep you updated!
