Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma Delayed to Launch Alongside Switch 2

One of the main characters greets a Woolby in Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma

During the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, several titles were announced to have versions on the new system. One of those is the upcoming, gorgeous new title in the Rune Factory series, Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma. While the game was set to launch on May 30th for Switch and Steam, Marvelous has decided to push it to June 5th to coincide with the launch of the Switch 2 version.

If you already have Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma pre-ordered for the original Switch, don’t fret! If you intend to get a Switch 2, an upgrade pack will be available. How much that costs and other details will be announced at a later date. However, upgrading to the Switch 2 version will provide a higher resolution, improved frame rate, and the ability to use the Joy-Con 2 mouse controls while building a village.

If you are wanting a physical copy, a Standard and Limited Edition is available to pre-order for the original Switch. The Limited Edition includes the following:

  • Custom outer box
  • Two CD soundtrack with 56 tracks
  • Art book consisting of 160 pages
  • Azuma-inspired folding fan
  • Woolby plush keychain
  • DLC pack that includes the “Seasons of Love Bundle”, “Festive Attire and Dark Woolby Bundle”, “Rune Factory 4 Hero Outfit Bundle”, “Rune Factory 4 Bachelorette Outfit Bundle”, and the Useful Item Bundle

You can pre-order the game physically in the Americas from the Marvelous USA website or, in Europe and Australia, through Marvelous Europe. It will be available digitally through the eShop and Steam, including a Digital Deluxe Edition with all of the DLC, as well as the soundtrack and an art book. All digital versions will include the “Rune Factory 4 Hero Outfit Bundle” as a bonus.

Marvelous describes Rune Factory: Guards of Azuma:

Guardians of Azuma takes players on an all-new adventure in the never-before-seen country of Azuma. Here, players will assume the role of an Earth Dancer destined to return hope—and life—to the once-thriving land. Choose from one of two protagonists whose fates are closely tied together, and experience reimagined and expanded Rune Factory gameplay; as Earth Dancer, players will farm with grace, restore and build entire villages, and fight with new weapons like the Bow and Talisman. Azuma is a vast world to explore with majestic villages to uncover, each taking inspiration from Japanese culture and each with a seasonal theme. In addition to exploration, combat, and village-building, players will also cultivate relationships with the locals, recruiting them to your side in battle or to help manage the villages. Wield sacred treasures of the gods and the Earth Dancer’s power of dance to purify the land and return Azuma to its former glory. The adventure of a new world awaits.
