The rumored remaster of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion has leaked by way of developer Virtuos’ website.
Redditors posted a link to a hosted folder (it’s since been taken down) containing screenshots and key art, as well as side-by-side comparison images of the original game and The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered. Here’s one below.
According to a GameSpot report last week citing insider Jeff Grubb, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered could release “any moment” this April. Grubb later said in a Giant Bomb video that the game will launch “in the week of April 21st”.
This whole rumor can be traced back to the antitrust battle between Microsoft (now the parent company of Elder Scrolls developer Bethesda Game Studios) and the US Federal Trade Commission, which saw some files released indicating an Oblivion remaster due in the 2022 financial year. That never came to be, of course, but this new leak shows it’s been in the works all along.
The original game launched in 2006 for Xbox 360 and PC, and in 2007 for PlayStation 3. If you’re interested in learning more about this classic Bethesda RPG, check out our reviews of the PC and 360 versions.
