In this edition of RPGs Coming This Week, we catch our breath after the jam-packed Switch 2 launch week. Not that there aren’t any releases this week; we have an assorted mix of new titles to sift through as Summer Game Fest weekend rolls on. So let’s not waste any more time and dive in!
Virtual Girl @ World’s End – June 12th (Switch, Windows)
Virtual Girl @ World’s End is a visual novel set in a post-apocalyptic future Tokyo nearing its end as resources dwindle, wars run abundant, and the population steadily declines. Despite this, a group of young women continue to pursue their passions even though they’re being judged for it, which takes an unexpected psychological toll on them. Can a light continue to shine brightly even amidst despair and turmoil? The premise for this sci-fi VN sounds rather intriguing, and the artwork also looks top-notch. I’ll be keeping an eye out for Virtual Girl @ World’s End when it releases this week on PC and Nintendo Switch!

Bioysque – June 13th (Windows)
Bioysque is a retro action RPG set in a horrific world where sci-fi, fantasy, and surrealism grotesquely intertwine. You play as a lone wanderer battling strange enemies emerging from the shadows, with every encounter forcing you to fight smarter, explore deeper, and grow stronger before facing the next brutal boss. Developed by Ark House, a Lithuanian artist who envisioned this world in dreams and decided to bring it to life, Bioysque feels more than just a game; it’s an interactive art installation. With cryptic storytelling, unique real-time combat, and infinite, boundary-less levels, this world looks dreamt rather than designed. I won’t miss this one-of-a-kind experience when it launches soon on Steam.

Also Coming This Week
Stellar Blade – June 11th (Windows)
After its stellar release last year on PlayStation 5, South Korean developer Shift Up is shifting things up further with Stellar Blade‘s upcoming PC port. The game’s initial Steam listing had caused an uproar toward publisher Sony due to it being blocked in 120 countries, but that region lock has since been lifted. Also removed is the requirement to have a PSN account to play it on PC, unlike other Sony titles. All that’s left is to check the PC requirements and test the demo before purchasing.
Stellar Blade is a gorgeous action RPG set in a post-apocalyptic world. While the narrative didn’t live up to my expectations, the refreshing experience I had with the combat is more than enough for me to recommend the game to genre fans who haven’t already picked it up. And oh, one more thing: please, please listen to the soundtrack.

Revival Xanadu (Easy Ver PC-9801) – June 12th (Switch)
Revival Xanadu is a remake of the original Xanadu, an action RPG released in Japan in 1985. EGGCONSOLE is a series of Japanese computer games being ported to the Nintendo Switch by D4 Enterprise. The name is likely a reference to D4’s original Project EGG, which was an emulation-based game content delivery service for Windows. It should be no surprise that both Xanadu and Xanadu Scenario II were released through EGG, both in 2001 and 2013. The EGGCONSOLE series also features Xanadu PC-8801 and Xanadu Scenario II PC-8801.
Releasing on the 12th is the PC-9801 version of Revival Xanadu, based on the 1995 re-release of Xanadu. This version comes with enhanced graphics and BGM, as well as a map function, while retaining the game’s original difficulty. This should be a no-brainer for any retro game enthusiast.
