In this edition of RPGs Coming This Week, we run the gamut from strategy RPGs to visual novels. This lineup feels like it offers something for everyone — even more than it usually does. I, for one, can’t wait to dive in. Let’s do this!
Gales of Nayeli – June 23rd (Windows)
Gales of Nayeli is a grid-based SRPG inspired by the greats of the genre. Mysterious dangers are threatening the fantasy world of Iuven, so Nayeli, the soon-to-be chieftain of the Gaowaga, embarks on a journey to halt them. Can Nayeli and her eclectic party of fighters band together to save all they know?
Gales of Nayeli touts a character growth system in which not only statistics but also new abilities and grid movements are gained through collecting experience and leveling up. Characters also acquire new abilities through the use of skill scrolls and choices throughout the narrative. I’ve been curious about Gales of Nayeli ever since I first heard about its development, and I’m excited to finally get the chance to play this indie SRPG when it releases later this week!

Shuffle Tactics – June 24th (Windows)
Shuffle Tactics is a deck-building roguelike that fuses tactical, 3D grid-based combat with deckbuilder strategy — think the prodigious child of Final Fantasy Tactics and Slay the Spire. The game’s lush pixel art bursts with dynamic lighting, rich shading, and punchy VFX that make every move pop.
Your mission? Shield the Kingdom of Astera from a creeping, enigmatic curse. Craft a killer deck, scoop up game-changing relics, and recruit trusty sidekicks to tip the scales. With three distinct heroes and ten recruitable partners, every run invites a brand-new battle plan. A free demo is already live on Steam, so you can start shuffling right now while you wait for the full release. Built by a solo developer, Shuffle Tactics is a dream come true for anyone who craves tactical depth, roguelike replayability, and the sweet satisfaction of a perfectly played hand.

Front Mission 3: Remake – June 26th (Switch)
Front Mission 3: Remake releases on Nintendo Switch on June 26th. The classic PSX tactical, mech-themed RPG gets a full remodel. Upgraded visuals, improved animations, an updated soundtrack, and Wanzer (Front Mission‘s mechs) camouflage customization are some of the major enhancements made by MegaPixel Studio. Battles can also be sped up via Quick Combat mode, which is a nice quality-of-life feature.
Front Mission 3: Remake follows a branching story, splitting early on based on the player’s choices. The game follows protagonists Kazuki and Ryogo, who are pulled into a major conflict they were not prepared for. FM3R debuts at a favorable price of $34.99 USD. Although it is only releasing on Switch this week, PC and other console ports are likely to follow in the future. Front Mission 1st: Remake was released in 2022, and its sequel Front Mission 2: Remake launched the following year. Both games received generally favorable reviews, so this third installment may receive a similar reception.

Persona 5: The Phantom X – June 26th (Windows, iOS, Android)
Persona 5: The Phantom X is a free-to-play RPG heading to mobile and PC. A spinoff of the popular Persona 5, The Phantom X is an alternate universe retelling of that game’s plot, introducing new and fascinating characters. Similar to the original, players explore everyday city life as a high schooler alongside Palace dungeon exploration using Persona you strengthen as you advance. Relationship-building, day-to-day life, and dungeon-crawling exist in a stylish setting that meshes visually with the memorable original P5 experience.
I’m not usually the biggest fan of free-to-play mobile games, but there’s something about the style and conceptual setting of Persona 5: The Phantom X that makes me think I might just give it a try when it releases later this week!

System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster – June 26th (PS5, PS4, XSX, XB1, Switch, Windows)
One of the most influential games for both the RPG and first-person shooter genres gets a fresh launch this week. Nightdive Studios has given a fresh coat of paint to a PC classic with System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster. While the game’s prequel was given a complete remake in 2023, Nightdive opted for the remaster route with System Shock 2. The studio has stated that their goal is to maintain the emotional impact of the original while improving gameplay elements to fit modern standards.
For many, System Shock 2 was their introduction to the series, and it remains one of the most revered PC games of all time. Anyone looking to experience the classic for the first time or old fans seeking to rekindle nostalgia can play System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster on June 26th.

ToHeart – June 25th (Windows)
ToHeart is an interesting game to be releasing in 2025. Originally released for PC in 1997, the visual novel eventually made its way to the PlayStation in 1999, with voice acting, new and rewritten scenarios, a new heroine, bonus minigames, and the removal of adult scenes.
This latest release is interesting for a few reasons, primarily that ToHeart is receiving a simultaneous worldwide launch on Steam while being relegated solely to the Japanese eShop for the Switch. Despite having a full English localization available, the decision to not release on the Switch in the west is a confusing one.
However, the decision to basically remake this old visual novel is a compelling one. The release features brand new 3D scenes and animations, full HD art, and the choice of choosing classic or new voices. There’s also support for English, Japanese, and Chinese. Are you ready to go back to high school and win some hearts? I hope you’re ready because ToHeart releases on Jun 25th, 2025.
