All is tranquil in this edition of RPGs Coming This Week. No fast-paced or turn-based combat on the horizon, just games that require a lot of reading — not unlike what you’re doing right now. But I promise this article will be a lot more brisk than your average visual novel, so let’s just get started!

Studio Élan has a reputation for creating thoughtful narratives with memorable characters, and this game looks to be no exception. Upwards, Rain! The Post Office of Farewells is a visual novel/puzzle adventure hybrid starring Rain, a winged courier, and Mila, who are on a journey through a mysterious post office to find a letter written by someone who maybe didn’t exist in the first place.

In Upwards, Rain!, you’ll use Rain’s stamps to connect words to figure out solutions to the puzzles you encounter, depending on the scenario. The game promises a creative premise with a whole lot of heart when it releases later this week!

Sofia in Exchange for Lies – July 2nd (Windows)

Here’s one of those out-of-left-field games that leave me equal parts intrigued and unnerved. Sofia in Exchange for Lies is a mystery adventure game where you, a psychiatrist, interview a girl under arrest on suspicion of killing a presidential candidate. The kicker? Sofia has multiple personality disorder, so you need to be extra meticulous if you want the whole story. Also, these aren’t face-to-face sessions, as you can only interview and observe her remotely. Her environment will be as much a clue as anything she says. I think fans of games like Her Story and Gnosia (*waves*) may appreciate Sofia in Exchange for Lies.
