At the tail end of the latest Nintendo Direct: Partner Showcase, we saw the reveal of Octopath Traveler 0, set to release on PlayStation 5 and 4; Xbox Series X|S; Nintendo Switch and Switch 2; and PC on December 4th.
Octopath Traveler 0 is said to build on the story of mobile entry Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent, adding new content and streamlining it overall. Check out the announcement trailer.
Similar to Champions of the Continent, Octopath Traveler 0 will feature a town-building aspect and will offer over 30 recruitable party members. The protagonist will be customizable. Read on below for a quick overview.
Octopath Traveler 0 Overview
Start from zero and discover the newest entry in the OCTOPATH TRAVELER series. Experience a story of restoration and retribution over the divine rings—an epic saga that unfolds across the realm of Orsterra.
This exciting entry to the series brings all-new features and returning core elements from the series, including the series’ iconic HD-2D graphics blending retro pixel art and 3D CG art, Path Actions to interact with other characters in various ways, the Break and Boost battle system which can turn the tide of battle, and more. And for the first time in series history, fans will play through the eyes of their own customized protagonist and be able to rebuild their hometown after great destruction is brought to it. Embark on a journey of your own creation.

The game tells a gripping story of restoration and retribution, set across the realm of Orsterra. Our tale begins in the idyllic town of Wishvale in the verdant Woodlands region – although it’s not peaceful for long. Due to an… unfortunate event we won’t ruin here, the charming settlement is completely destroyed.
In the wake of the tragedy, your hero sets off on a journey to seek revenge – and rebuild your hometown in the process.
For the first time in the series, you create your own customized protagonist, choosing the appearance, voice, motion, and even your favourite dish. Then you’ll take them on a grand adventure over a large and beautiful world full of quests to complete, more than 30 characters to recruit, and people to interact with via the series’ signature Path Actions!
Plus, more than a few dangers to face in gripping turn-based battles with up to eight characters in your party!
As you play, you’ll also rebuild your hometown. As you explore the world, you’ll find resources that you can use to build up your settlement. You’ll place buildings, create decorations and bring its scattered people back to their homes.
