RPGs Coming This Week, 8/17/25

This week, there isn’t a lot to cover, but we do have an interesting contrast: two smaller titles that I’d rather no one sleep on (no pun intended) coming out alongside a port of a blockbuster game that absolutely no one slept on.

RPGs Coming This Week casts a spotlight on all worthy releases in the role-playing realm, so without further ado, let’s come together and check out all the new games looking to catch our notice!

Deep Sleep: Labyrinth of the Forsaken – August 21st (Windows)

It isn’t spoopy season quite yet, but Deep Sleep: Labyrinth of the Forsaken is here to bring the scares regardless. This point-and-click horror game is a standalone entry in the Deep Sleep series created by scriptwelder. It’s about a woman who goes off in search of her ostensibly dead brother after coming across his old journals, which get into esoterica like lucid dreaming and other worlds. Of course, protagonists dipping into occult stuff like this isn’t particularly good for, uh, staying alive, but it usually makes for a good game.

The trailer above seems to be a solid preview of what to expect from Deep Sleep: Labyrinth of the Forsaken. The dark urban setting, usually lit by just your flashlight, is a mood, and I’m into the variety of puzzles shown. This is probably me showing my limited frame of reference, but I’m getting Silent Hill vibes, y’all, and I’m all for it.

The Girl from Arkanya – August 21st (Windows)

The Girl from Arkanya is a pixel-art action RPG that began its journey on Kickstarter in 2020, getting fully funded in just 24 hours! It draws inspiration from 2D Zelda classics such as Four Swords Adventures, but with a twist: you play as Marisa, a treasure hunter with an unusual ally, a magical capybara named Ka’apiuara Yum Kaax. But you can just call him Kapi!

Your mission is to save the land of Arkanya by conquering six challenging dungeons filled with valuable artifacts and treasures, each revealing a piece of the land’s history. You’ll be able to swap between Marisa and Kapi, a key mechanic for overcoming the many challenges the world has to offer. You can also enjoy local co-op, allowing a second player to join you at any time!

The demo is already available on Steam, so you can get a taste of the adventure before the full release.

Also Coming This Week

Black Myth: Wukong – August 20th (XSX)

Black Myth: Wukong, developer Game Science’s action RPG/Souls-like based on the Chinese novel Journey to the West, is coming this week to Xbox Series X|S after launching on PlayStation 5 and PC exactly a year ago. It has smashed sales records and racked up acclaim like few games ever have, and now its audience is about to get even wider. Go figure!

Just be warned that it is not coming to Game Pass. With the legs this game has had, I wouldn’t expect it to for a long time, if ever.

Freelance graphic designer by day and gaming aficionado by night, Adem joined the RPGFan team to fully express his passion for video games. He grew up playing on his uncle's PC and PS2, which introduced him to many titles he was probably too young for (Resident Evil 4 and Vagrant Story at 8?!). Thankfully, his uncle also passed on the dedication needed to reload a Dragon Quest VIII save just to earn enough casino tokens for the Gringham Whip, and for that, he's forever grateful.
