The Pokémon Company has revealed a brand-new Mega Evolution for the upcoming Pokémon Legends: Z-A: Mega Malamar is joining the roster!

The game launches on October 16th, 2025, for Nintendo Switch and Switch 2, and we already have a solid glimpse of its look, along with a growing lineup of Mega Evolutions. Game Freak has been on a roll with these high-production reveals, including an animated lucha libre showdown featuring Mega Hawlucha and a chilling found-footage horror teaser introducing Mega Victreebel.

This time around, it’s Mega Malamar: a Psychic squid capable of freely overwriting the personalities or even the memories of others… a terrifying power that can make someone seem like an entirely different person! This new form was unveiled through a live-action documentary styled like a breaking news broadcast, where a newscaster reports that Lumiose City has been swept up in a sudden, bizarre wave of love and admiration for Malamar.

Dive into the trailer and uncover why Mega Malamar is the talk of Lumiose:

There’s also a new in-game trailer that truly showcases what Mega Malamar looks like in battle: a rainbow-hued Lovecraftian nightmare brought to life.

Thankfully, his uncle also passed on the dedication needed to reload a Dragon Quest VIII save just to earn enough casino tokens for the Gringham Whip, and for that, he's forever grateful.
