Nioh 3 Brings Warring Shoguns, Furious Swordplay Next February

Koei Tecmo and developer Team Ninja have announced that their action RPG Nioh 3 will launch on February 6th, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and PC via Steam.

The announcement came via a new story trailer at the latest Sony State of Play, depicting jealousy between two brothers across Japan’s storied past. Check it out below!

Nioh 3 – Release Date Announcement Trailer

Players will take on the role of Tokugawa Takechiyo, a young samurai poised to become the next shogun of Japan in its war-laden Sengoku period. Before such honour can be given, Tokugawa Kunimatsu, his younger brother, changes their fates in an act of jealous hatred, bringing hordes of vicious yokai to Japan to seize the title of shogun. Takechiyo, with the aid of his guardian spirit, must travel through time to defeat his brother and end the supernatural threat to his homeland and its people.

As Takechiyo, players will explore large areas across three periods of Japanese history (Sengoku, Edo, and Heian), replete with famous Japanese landmarks and cities, such as ancient Kyoto and Edo Castle. While exploring, they’ll fight supernatural enemies using two interchangeable styles of combat, the Samurai and Ninja styles, which further change based on the weapons and stats players prioritise.

As someone who enjoyed Nioh but didn’t have space in life to play its sequel, I’m happy that the franchise has continued to propel to seemingly ever-greater heights technically, narratively, and combat-wise. I’ll be curious to see how it melds into our current era of gaming upon its release in early February.

Nioh 3 will launch on February 6th, 2026, for PS5 and PC via Steam.
