In this edition of RPGs Coming This Week, October immediately gets in full swing. From timely spooky and spooky-adjacent games to homages to old titles of times past, this week has seemingly everything you could ever ask for (or realistically play). So let’s dive in!
House of Necrosis – October 6th (Windows, Linux)
House of Necrosis is a turn-based dungeon crawler horror RPG inspired by the early 3D survival horror games of the 90s. The game closely mirrors the first installments of the Resident Evil series, echoing the graphical style of the original PlayStation era. Created by solo developer Warkus, this unique title blends the tense resource management and terrifying creatures of classic survival horror with the mechanics of a randomly generated dungeon crawler.
Every step you take and every action you perform has consequences, as monsters only move when you do. Your goal is to escape a seemingly endless mansion, a haunted labyrinth filled with zombies, monstrous hounds, and low-flying crows. Each death sends you back to the very beginning, so you must level up your character and upgrade your equipment in the desperate hope of one day escaping this mansion of hell. I really enjoyed the demo myself, so give it a try if you want to taste what it feels like!

Battle Suit Aces – October 7th (PS5, Switch, Windows)
Battle Suit Aces is the second game from developer Trinket Studios, and it smells iron-ically good! It’s a card-battling RPG where you embark on a journey through space aboard the USS Zephyr, joining Captain Heathcliff and his crew of mech pilots as they search the galaxy for alien superweapons known as the Relic Suits. Venture through mecha- and monster-filled space, leading your crew through dangerous situations and comedic sci-fi tragedy.
Each turn, deploy your pilots to the battle line and decide who should attack which monster. Pilots can upgrade one another through their abilities, encouraging you to try new combinations in every battle as your foes evolve too. Throughout the game, you’ll forge bonds with space pirates, universal athletes, and other fully voiced characters.
Inspired by old-school mecha anime like Gurren Lagann and Martian Successor Nadesico, Battle Suit Aces is about saving the galaxy with your found family using alien superweapons. Your adventure will be shaped by the pilots you befriend and the decisions you make, ensuring that your journey truly reflects your choices…

Cairn: Mathair’s Curse – October 9th (Windows)
Cairn: Mathair’s Curse is a Scottish turn-based, story-driven JRPG set in the land of Albaness. It is inspired by life in the Scottish Highlands in the early 2000s. Rise Eterna 2 – October 9th (PS5, XSX, PS4, XB1, Switch, Windows)
Another tactics RPG coming this week is Rise Eterna 2, brought to us by Forever Entertainment. Yes, the very same company responsible for the Front Mission, Panzer Dragoon, and The House of the Dead remakes has been cooking up original games like this all the while.
Co-developed with Makee Games and Ricci Cedric Design, Rise Eterna 2 definitely calls to mind the likes of Fire Emblem and Final Fantasy Tactics, down to its grid-based maps, stat-dependent combat encounters, and political narrative. The game has its own wrinkles, including character customization and skill trees. If you’re interested, a demo is available now.

BatteryNote – October 10th (Windows, macOS)
BatteryNote is a multi-ending sci-fi visual novel where you step into the role of a mechanic who has picked up three robots from a scrapyard: J.S.C.A., a waitress robot from a diner; Surverry, a security unit designed for office monitoring; and Devind R7, a combat robot seemingly developed for military use. In your eerie garage, you recharge and revive the robots. After that, you can talk and interact with them: either engage in simple conversations or apply high voltage to see how they react.
How you treat them will affect their behavior and ultimately determine the ending of the game. Your actions, whether kind or cruel, shape their fate. You hold the power to make them happy or miserable, so choose your words carefully and do not shock them too much. They might not appreciate it… How they spend their last 10% of battery is up to you.

Ys vs. Trails in the Sky: Alternative Saga – October 10th (PS5, PS4, Switch, Windows)
Ys vs. Trails in the Sky: Alternative Saga is a remastered port of the 2010 PSP crossover fighting game utilizing the engaging battle system found in Ys Seven. It features characters from Falcom’s flagship series, Ys and The Legend of Heroes: Trails, so you can play as heroes like the legendary red-haired swordsman Adol and the aspiring bracer Estelle. The game also features several support characters from throughout Falcom’s storied gaming line-up, providing additional combat boosts.
Ys vs. Trails in the Sky: Alternative Saga’s new release features remastered visuals and various multiplayer options. I’m a huge Falcom fan who especially holds both Ys and The Legend of Heroes: Trails series in high esteem, not to mention that fighting games are my jam right alongside RPGs, so this previously English localization-missing alternate universe crossover is one I’m eagerly looking forward to when it releases later this week!

Games We Missed Last Week
Shujinkou – October 2nd (Switch)
Shujinkou, a turn-based dungeon crawler that also happens to teach Japanese (if you want it to), came to Switch last week. Our own Zek Lu reviewed the PS5 release earlier this year, and it’s safe to say he enjoyed it a lot.
