Hello RPGFan fans! I have some important — dare I say exciting — news for you about our YouTube channels. Since we launched our YouTube channel, it’s been home to our original videos like hands-on previews, dev interviews, and more, in addition to our three podcasts. Today, we’re officially revealing both a channel split and a brand-new one. First up: the new YouTube home for our podcasts.
RPGFan Podcasts Channel
We have spun off our three podcasts to a dedicated channel, aptly, if obviously, named RPGFan Podcasts! Our biggest reason for doing this is the all-governing algorithm at YouTube. We have often seen the negative effects of pairing our regularly updated podcast updates with original videos, simply due to the way YouTube features and presents content to people. We don’t want our podcasts to cause people to miss things like our hands-on previews or interviews, or vice versa. Why can’t you show people all our new stuff, Google? This is also why sometimes you’ll see us delay podcast uploads to ensure other videos get their time in the sun.
Many friends of the site have seen positive results by splitting podcasts and original content, so we have followed suit. All of our podcasts still have dedicated YouTube playlists, just at new links:
For right now, we have not finished removing the podcasts from our main channel, but as of now, all new uploads will go to this new channel, which has all 980 episodes of our shows, so please click below to follow and subscribe for new updates! We know it’s a little inconvenient having two channels, but we are making plans for more original content on our main channel, and we want to make sure those plans and our podcasts can make their way to you without detracting from one another.
RPGFan VODs Channel
If you follow Twitch news, no doubt you are aware of the platform’s February announcement of a sudden storage limit cap. For channels like ours, this meant the potential of losing thousands of hours and several years’ worth of streamed video content. Obviously, like many other creators affected by this change, that didn’t set well with us, especially Scott, who puts serious efforts into our Twitch channel every week, not to mention his summer marathons.
Thankfully, despite the short notice and time-intensiveness of downloading and uploading a ton of videos, Scott rescued over 1500 archived streams from Twitch oblivion, all of which you can find on our new RPGFan VODs YouTube channel. But this channel isn’t only an archive, as new streams will continue to be uploaded there as they complete, including Scott’s current playthrough of Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles.
While we obviously would love for you to join us live on our Twitch channel, we’re just glad these past streams have a safer home.
RPGFan Main YouTube Channel
Finally, as I mentioned above, our main YouTube channel and all of its non-podcast content will remain. We have reorganized the home tab of the channel to highlight things you may never have seen, so I encourage you to check it out! Let us know below if there’s anything you’d like to see us revisit in video, from more reviews, to features, to our “first 15 minutes” series.
Thanks for reading all this and supporting RPGFan. Even if I love the idea of keeping things in one place, I hope this new trio of YouTube channels will allow us to showcase our work for you even better than before, and most importantly, without them competing with one another!
