Square Enix has released a new trailer for Octopath Traveler 0, the latest in the Octopath Traveler series.
Shown at the latest State of Play Japan, the trailer gives players a glimpse of the songful story, trio of dastardly villains, and extensive base-building mechanics that await them. Check it out below!
Octopath Traveler 0 – Story Trailer
As seen above, players will contend against three villains, each embodying a different vice: Herminia (Wealth), Tytos (Power), and Auguste (Fame). Beyond that, it seems a core aspect of the game is the restoration of Wishvale, the protagonist’s ruined hometown. The game offers a wide array of activities ranging from rebuilding town amenities to engaging in side-stories centred on those drawn to the town’s restoration.
Octopath Traveler 0 puts players in the shoes of Zero, a customisable hero set to contend with the enemies in their path in turn-based battle, utilising the series’ hallmark mechanics, Break and Boost, where players can strengthen abilities and take advantage of weaknesses to stun foes. Enjoy familiar features such as the series’ HD-2D graphics, a fusion of retro pixel art and 3DCG; the player’s ability to roleplay using Path Actions of their choice; and the Break and Boost system that can turn the tide of battle. Additionally, brand-new features such as character creation and town building allow you to create your own character and restore your hometown.

A demo for Octopath Traveler 0 is available now. It spans the character creation of Zero and gives players three hours to explore the starting area. Save data from the demo will transfer to the game upon its release.

As someone who has been an intermittent fan of this series, it’s deeply cool to see the mobile release of Champions of the Continent expanded into a full-fledged release.
