Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Switch 2 Release Date and More Square Enix from Today’s Nintendo Direct

Aerith, Tifa, and Yuffie excitedly looking out a window in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth

This morning’s Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase didn’t seem that packed with RPG and adventure game updates at first, but as it went on, I lost track of how many times I thought, “oh, this is also in our coverage at RPGFan.” We will get to more developers as well, but Square Enix alone featured a trio of announcements worth your time, starting, as you’d guess, with Cloud and company.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth

While we knew that updates on Final Fantasy VII Rebirth‘s Switch 2 release would be coming soon, we not only got a release date todayโ€”June 3rd, 2026โ€”but pre-orders are also already open on the eShop. Based on the presentation, Rebirth looks good on Switch 2 so far. Whatever black magic Square Enix used to deliver the Switch 2 port of Final Fantasy VII Remake seems intact. Square Enix also revealed separately that, like Remake, June 3rd will also be when Rebirth lands on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, Xbox Play Anywhere, and Xbox Cloud Gaming Support. Yikes. Can’t we just say “All the Xbox things”?

Take a look at the brand-new Switch 2 and Xbox trailer now:

By now, you probably know all you need to know about Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, even if you haven’t read Zach Wilkerson’s excellent review. But if you haven’t, well, you should! That said, this new release does debut new “Streamlined Progression” features, similar to those in the Switch 2 and Xbox releases of Final Fantasy VII Remake. These features give players toggles for unlimited HP and MP, max Limit and ATB gauges, 9,999 damage, and more. Whether you want to breeze through a second time or the action-based combat aren’t totally for you, more options are good for everyone. Presumably, these options will also appear on PS5 and PC in June as well.

Along with the Switch 2 edition, digital pre-orders are also open for Xbox Series X|S and Xbox on PC, with Xbox platforms offering a 20% discount until June 10th. The standard edition’s regular price is $49.99 USD, which reflects a new permanent price reduction across all platforms starting February 9th, which also sees the Digital Deluxe Edition drop to $69.99.

Speaking of that edition, pre-ordering the Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Digital Deluxe Edition on either platform includes a few goodies, in the form of the Moogle Trio, Magic Pot, and Posh Chocobo summoning materias, a selection of armor and accessories, plus a digital artbook and mini soundtrack.

Whether or not you pre-order, June is shaping up to be a big month for RPG fans, with Final Fantasy VII Rebirth launching on June 3rd for Switch 2 and Xbox, and 15 days later…

The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales

We got a new look at HD-2D action RPG The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales after a long wait that showcases the game’s many time periods and how the passage of time affects the same areas. There was a lot to see in a little time here, so for all the details, including the shiny Collector’s Edition, and more, check out our separate article. Otherwise, enjoy the new trailer below, and look for the game on June 18th for PS5, Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

Paranormasight: The Mermaidโ€™s Curse

Hey, remember 2023’s Paranormasight: The Seven Mysteries of Honjo? I’m honestly not sure how big a hit it was for Square Enix, so it was quite a surprise to see a sequel today in Paranormasight: The Mermaidโ€™s Curse! This new game features a standalone story and new cast of characters, so no worries if you didn’t play the first game. The Mermaid’s Curse is set in Showa-era Japan and focuses on the occult and urban legends to create a mysterious adventure.

Take a look at the debut trailer and screenshots below. But don’t spend too long looking, because the game releases in a mere two weeks, on February 19th! It will be available for Nintendo Switch, PC via Steam, iOS, and Android.

And there you have Square Enix’s updates from today! Keep on eye on RPGFan for more from the Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase.
