Game Freak and Nintendo have unveiled Pokémon Winds & Pokémon Waves, the next entries — generation 10 — in the mainline game series. It is set to release exclusively on Nintendo Switch 2 sometime during 2027.
The announcement came via the latest Pokémon Presents presentation, where a colourful first-look trailer aired in conjunction with the 30th anniversary of the franchise. Check it out below!

The above footage showcases special Pikachus, myriad biomes, and Pokémon galore, anchored around an island-focused tropical aesthetic. It also gives us a look at our playable trainers, as well as introducing the titles’ trio of starter Pokémon, known as Browt, Pombon, and Gecqua. Each of the three starters represents a classic base typing of grass, fire, or water, respectively, with one chosen by players at the start of the game.

Game Freak have also confirmed that Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves will launch with full Brazilian Portuguese localisation and language support. For more information on what players might expect, alongside specific details of the starters, check out below:
Developed by GAME FREAK Inc., the Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves games are the newest entries in the Pokémon RPG series and are scheduled for release in 2027 on the Nintendo Switch 2 system. These new titles feature an open world to explore, with beautiful windswept islands and a vast ocean with glittering waves.

The most recent mainline titles, Pokémon Scarlet & Violet, were released in 2022, leading to an unprecedented four-year gap between mainline releases. Judging by this first look, it seems that the time afforded has been nothing but a boon for its development.
Personally, I’m deeply excited to see what such an intentional pause means for this next chapter of the franchise. Alongside the upcoming Beast of Reincarnation, Game Freak is looking to have a barnstormer pair of years. It’ll be interesting see how it folds out.
Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves will launch on Nintendo Switch 2 sometime in 2027. For more information on the game, feel free to check out its official website.
