Dragon Quest Creator Yuji Horii Confirms New Information on Series’ Future to Come on May 27th

Series creator Yuji Horii has announced that a Dragon Quest-centred livestream will air on May 27th, uniting with the series’ 40th anniversary

The announcement came via the latest KosoKoso broadcast seen below, with Horii also stating that “…we’ll be able to make an announcement about the next game,” whilst also promising further news about the franchise at large.

It’s a strong likelihood that Horii is referring to Dragon Quest XII: The Flames of Fate, the next mainline game in the series. It was announced in 2021 as part of the series’ 35th anniversary celebrations, and little information has been provided over the last half decade.

Beyond the obvious, I’d give credence to the incoming announcement as a welcome misdirect in being a 2D-HD remake of either Dragon Quest IV: Chapters of the Chosen or Dragon Quest V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride, following the success of both Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake and Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake.

If the pixel stylings and classic JRPG make of the 2D-HD remakes catch your interest, check out Zach Wilkerson’s reviews for both Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake and Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake.

As it stands, anything that shines a light on the future of this venerable JRPG franchise will be a welcome sight. We’ll be sure to report to you what transpires on May 27th!
