Nacon and developer Midgard Studio have released new gameplay footage of Edge of Memories, their upcoming action JRPG.

The four-minute trailer lightly showcases the mechanics supporting its real-time combat, exploration, and upgrade systems while dovetailing them with cinematic action and expansive locales. Check it out below!

Edge of Memories Gameplay Overview Trailer

As seen above, Edge of Memories focuses on protagonist Eline and her allies, who are tasked with the duty of eliminating the Corruption that plagues Avaris, the game’s setting.

Eline herself is a powerhouse, alternating between strings of light and heavy combos, incorporating a perfect dodge system that feeds into a supercharged state caused by the Corruption. In this state, similar to the Anti Form Sora from Kingdom Hearts II, the player will utilise rapid attack strings, outputting more damage as Eline over a limited time.

Joining Eline are her two allies who specialise in complementary combos, essentially setting up Eline for dramatic high-damage finishers. This is further honed through a continuous upgrade system in which players gain a resource known as Echoes through level-ups. Utilising Echoes will eventually lead to players unlocking both passive and active skills for Eline and her allies, which can be grouped in three customisable sets to match any combat with the needed strategy.

Beyond combat, Edge of Memories brings a semi-open world to explore, with the continent of Avaris fully explorable on foot or on a mount, featuring locales including bustling cities, corrupted miasmas, and more. For a deeper look at what players might expect, check out an official synopsis below:

Edge of Memories Overview

The Corrosion, a plague of unparalleled proportions, has already ravaged the Astryan continent. On the other side of the world, the continent of Avaris and its nomadic peoples—so far spared from the horrors spawned by this abomination—now stand on the brink of extinction. Eline, an itinerant Soul Whisperer, relentlessly battles the force that turns the once-thriving fauna, flora and humans of this lush land into grotesque abominations. Following a mysterious encounter, a dark power awakens within her, one that may hold the key to ending this apocalypse: the ability to control the Corrosion within her own body.

But saving a world already doomed is no easy task. With the help of Ysoris, her unlikely mentor, and Kanta, shaman prince of a lost tribe, Eline must overcome the formidable adversaries standing in her way.
