Cassette Beasts 2002 Announcement Trailer

Cassette Beasts 2002 is a sequel to 2023’s Cassette Beasts, which seeks to bring its pixel-infused monster battling to London in the (in-game) year 2002. Players will take on the role of an unnamed protagonist, a new arrival to a quiet neighbourhood of London, before being whisked away to the land of Nodnol where beasts roam. In Nodnol, players will record beasts on cassette tapes to work together in battle, meet an eclectic cast of twelve companions, explore its environs with friends in online multiplayer, and more. The critically-acclaimed monster-collecting series returns with a brand new story, perfect for both new and returning players alike!

After arriving in a quiet neighbourhood of London, you soon find yourself pulled down a rabbit hole to Nodnol, a land of beasts and high strangeness that exists in the shadow of our own. When the past collides with the present, one question must be answered: Who is the mysterious occultist Westerley, and what are they planning for both worlds?

Enter the story as a newcomer or import your character from the first Cassette Beasts game to continue your creature-collecting journey!

Transform, Fuse, and Fight!

Record beasts with cassette tapes and play them back to take on their form in battle! Fuse with your companions to gain the upper hand – any two beasts can be combined to produce over 57,000+ powerful and fully-animated fusion forms! Take advantage of alchemy in battle to apply extra buffs and debuffs alongside your attacks or even change your opponent’s elemental type.

The Power of Bonds Made Real!

Befriend, recruit, and romance from a cast of twelve companions. Each companion has their own motivations, stories, and gameplay perks. Each bond deepened allows for more powerful fusions in battle!

Never Walk Alone!

Explore the beast world of Nodnol alongside your friends with online multiplayer. Trade tapes, record beasts, and fight alongside other players in any encounter, including story battles!

Spark A Fierce Vendetta!

Beasts you encounter have a chance to break out of their rigid roles and rebel against you. Rogue beasts learn from your battle techniques, adapt, and return to challenge you anew!

If you’re curious about what RPGFan thought of the first game, check out Des Miller’s Cassette Beasts review!

I’ve admired the predecessor to this game from afar, with its desire to develop past the ever-present influence of Pokémon into new territories. I hope that Cassette Beasts 2002 broadens that innovation even further, for fans of monster-battlers and music both.

Cassette Beasts 2002 will be released for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC via Steam. No release window has been revealed yet.
