Deltarune Chapter 5 Brings Bloom To Consoles & PC on June 24th

Developer Toby Fox has revealed that Chapter 5 of Deltarune will release as a free update for players who have purchased the game. It will release on June 24th for Nintendo Switch 1 & 2, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and PC via Steam. The reveal came as part of the latest Nintendo Direct presentation, alongside a brief trailer showcasing a zany plushie dog and pixellated flowers galore. Check it out below!

Deltarune Chapter 5 Release Date Reveal

In his official newsletter, Toby Fox detailed further what the trailer represents, stating that he wants to “…surprise people playing the Chapter for the first time, so I avoided showing the most exciting moments…”. He also gave credit to those who made the trailer, including animator Everdraed, composer Carlos “insaneintherain” Eiene and artist Temmie. Beyond what Chapter 5 represents, Toby Fox also gave a small update on the progress of Chapter 6:

Chapter 6 is developing well.

• Cutscenes / NPC interactions: Making good progress.
• Overworld gameplay: We’ve created all the basic gimmicks of the chapter. (Gimmick = climbing, puzzles, etc.) Now, we need to create a few more rooms utilizing these gimmicks.
• Normal enemies & bullets: Mostly complete.
• Boss & bullets: We are working on the bullets of the last battle of the chapter.

This Chapter is easier to make than the others, so the development is going quite fast.

This sounds crazy, but it’s not unrealistic that some staff members may start working on Chapter 7 before the end of the year.

Deltarune puts players in the role of Kris, a human teenager in a town populated by monsters. Through happenstance, she and classmate Susie find themselves in the Dark World where they meet Ralsei, a young Prince. He exhorts that all three are the prophesied Heroes of Light, set to banish Darkness by sealing away the Dark Fountains to prevent a cataclysmic event. Players will traverse across the Dark World, contesting with enemies in a fusion of party turn-based battling and bullet-hell style gameplay, in, frankly, encounters that should be experienced to be believed.

Originally released as a free demo in 2018, Deltarune continues its development apace with the release of this upcoming chapter and the semi-recent collation of the first four chapters into a cohesive release. As someone who deeply enjoyed Undertale long ago, it’s heartening to see Toby Fox and his team of developers methodically improve and execute on their vision across the better part of a decade.
