Fields of Mistria puts players in the role of a player-created protagonist who has found themselves in the possession of a dilapidated but workable farm near the now-broken village of Mistria. Players will engage in gameplay akin to its peers such as Stardew Valley or Story of Seasons, where they will plant and raise crops, look after livestock, and sell their produce to Mistria. Beyond that, the protagonist will assist the townsfolk of Mistria in repairing their home after an earthquake decimated it, leaving scars and magic running through it. Players will learn the stories of over thirty villagers, see the town change throughout the seasons, and perhaps find romance with twelve eligible townsfolk.

Having semi-recently heard of Fields of Mistria both through our coverage and gaming podcasts, it seems like the title is a beautiful love letter and evolution to the ’90s farming-sims of yore. I’ve heard that its writing, in particular, is quite sharp amongst the interactions with both key NPCs and the townsfolk of the village. Perhaps something for genre enthusiasts and newcomers to keep in mind for later this year, as summer winds down.

Fields of Mistria is available now in Early Access for PC via Steam with its 1.0 release coming on August 5th. A console version has not been confirmed at this time, though NPC Studios has stated that they will consider doing so after the game’s full release.
