Square Enix and Disney & Pixar Games have announced that Kingdom Hearts IV will launch in late 2027 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC via Steam, Epic Games Store, and Microsoft Store. The announcement came via the 2026 D23 event, alongside a lengthy trailer showcasing familiar faces, bombastic combat, and a new fan-favourite Disney world. Check it out below!
Kingdom Hearts IV Extended D23 2026 Coco Trailer
As seen in the footage above, the 2017 animated hit Coco will take centre stage for part of Kingdom Hearts IV, confirming its setting (presumably The Land of the Dead) as one of its core Disney-themed worlds. Series protagonist Sora will explore its neon-lit streets alongside Miguel and Héctor, utilising flashy musical team attacks in combat. Quadratum, the quasi-modern setting introduced in Kingdom Hearts III, seemingly plays a key role with Sora teaming up with various Keyblade wielders to fight against incursions of gargantuan Heartless. Beyond combat, familiar characters integral to the mysteries of the series’ canon haunt the narrative, ranging from Strelitzia (Kingdom Hearts Union χ), Luxord (Kingdom Hearts II), and Young Xehanort (Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep).
Square Enix confirms that Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, and Goofy will also be playable, working together in parallel narratives to find Sora. Mickey journeys through a storybook world where platforming shifts based on the 2D lines of a page, 3D diaroma-esque constructed environments, and is navigated by the constructs Mickey creates and controls to explore both. Donald and Goofy follow Sora’s trail, beseeching Hades (Hercules) as to where Sora might be, following through towards Coco’s world. For a short synopsis, check out below:
KINGDOM HEARTS IV follows protagonist Sora and some familiar characters as they journey though the mysterious city of Quadratum, where dark creatures known as the Heartless are causing havoc. In the next chapter of the beloved series, Sora will once again journey to various worlds inspired by Disney and Pixar, where new figures cross his path and new powers awaken.
This new trailer revealed a plethora of new information about KINGDOM HEARTS IV, including the return of familiar faces like Sora’s friends Donald Duck and Goofy. Fans will be able to play as Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck and Goofy as they seek to uncover information about Sora’s whereabouts.
