Campaign Ends: May 17
Platform: Windows

Space: the final frontier. These are the voyages of the space bear Jobert and his unusual companions. Their mission: to explore the cosmos in search of an ideal houseplant. Crowdfunding Chronicles proudly presents Petrichor, an adorable Earthbound-inspired space adventure with delightful 3D graphics and a lovable cast of oddballs, aliens, and at least one foliage-covered pup.

Petrichor takes us to a tiny planet suffering from a strange assortment of predicaments: earthquakes, monsters, and most importantly, a foul odor. Dark forces are certainly at work here! In the midst of this chaos, a little space cub named Jobert wakes up one morning and decides he’s going to save his home from the tragedy of lacking the perfect plant. He gathers loyal friends, helps other planetoid-dwellers, and travels far beyond popular gardening centers like the ones at Walmart and Metro, to the far reaches of space, even! The universe is spiraling towards its end, and Jobert and his friends may be the only ones who can save it, and above all else, find a darling new houseplant!

While Petrichor is being made with RPGMaker MV, you won’t see any of the standard assets here. Instead, you’ll find a charming hand-crafted world made with pre-rendered 3D graphics in the style of Claymation or vinyl toys, complete with isometric backdrops that you’ll wish you could print out and display. The combat remains turn-based JRPG fare with quicktime events to deal additional damage, and you have a fine assortment of weapons and items to use, including butter knives and health-replenishing donuts. (I believe donuts do this in real life as well.)

A game this cute did not have much trouble reaching its funding target and is now onto stretch goals. These include a world map, more planetoids, and the addition of a hard mode (“Big Boy” mode, in this case). Meanwhile, pledge rewards include digital wallpapers, adorable figurines, and a full soundtrack featuring the lively electronic music of hamm_slamm. Be sure to check out some samples on the campaign page. They definitely make me think of classic anime music!

Traveling through Petrichor‘s universe sounds far more exciting than a trip to Canadian Tire’s plant section, and you might just save a galaxy in the meantime. Prepare to meet your new buddies later in 2026, with a cute demo currently available on Steam. The cosmos awaits!
