Hello RPGFriends! If you’ve ever wanted to see your boss or least favorite co-worker arrested for a crime that you yourself pulled off, Spill the Beans is the game for you. And in this case, your boss is a cat, your co-workers are monsters (of the supernatural kind), and the crime is stealing a priceless recipe. Spill the Beans is a charming visual novel that brews together a delightful blend of Knives Out, Ace Attorney, and Coffee Talk…with a devious twist!
Start your new job at The Familiar, a cozy little coffee shop with a clientele (and employees) consisting of various strange creatures such as sirens and animated skeletons. It’s a nice place and the job is decent, but that’s not why you’re actually here. Your real job is to steal the cafe’s top secret recipe, which you manage to do with ease, until it’s time to exit the premises with your new prize. Oh no. Stuck in the cafe, your brilliant Plan B is to blame one of your fellow employees…or maybe even your feline boss! Choose your target, build a solid case against them, and make your move! Will your escape be worth the friendships lost and lives ruined? Could there be a more honorable solution? Get to know the quirky cast of Spill the Beans, their relationships with each other, and all their nasty little habits. Affect their mood and ease their suspicions, while enjoying the sweet aroma of caffeinated beverages and cat-eared donuts. Your conversations might bring out the worst in your co-workers, or even improve their lives; will you gain some cherished new friends, or an entire coffee shop full of enemies? Among the colorful crew, you’ll meet a pink-clad vampire with a love of manga, a kind-hearted golem, and your disgruntled jerk of a boss. He’s a tuxedo cat, of course; gotta look extra professional! As a nice bonus, if you acquire six community stamps during the campaign, a new route will add a sweet romance with Dave the Delivery Guy! A special treat for otome fans, but don’t expect any romance otherwise; you have crimes to commit!
Spill the Beans is still brewing up the funds for its campaign target, with stretch goals set to add more conversations in the form of short vignettes, animations, and character sprites. The game is expected to release in Q2 2027, though a demo featuring two routes and some exclusive musical tracks is now available on Steam and Itch.io. While The Familiar’s official opening is still almost two years away, you can rest assured that your new favorite order will be ready: coffee with two sugars, and one crime!
