ARKS, you better be prepared, as Episode 6 of Phantasy Star Online 2 has launched! Previous Episodes have seen players explore an alternate version of Earth and an alternate dimension within a black hole, but Episode 6 brings tons of new content to the MMORPG, as well as a story which results in ARKS’ biggest battle yet.
It couldn’t be a better time to return, so to whet your appetite, here’s the launch trailer to give you a glimpse at ARKS battling Shiva and her forces:
While the final battle for Oracle is exciting, there are some big additions that will open up even more options for new and existing players. The most important of these are the two new Scion classes that have been introduced to the game, and both have some extremely unique qualities.
The Phantom class focuses on lowering the attack power of the enemy through their attacks and skills. They wield three different weapons in a unique fashion, but are also able to amend Photon Arts on the fly by using a Weapon Action. When using a Rod, their Techniques gain an additional Technique Attack too. So Phantoms are able to juggle a wide variety of skills at once and have an extremely varied playstyle by the sounds of it. Plus, who doesn’t love that Class name Phantom?

Etoile, however, lets you look like a small little mech and wield Double Sabres, so surely this is the right class to go for! They’re shown off extensively in the trailer above, and I’m honestly pretty close to grabbing the game just so I can parade around in one of those gold suits. The best part? Etoile are not only damage dealers, but can also restore allies’ HP and TP in battle, so they really are the star of the show!
The next most important part is the new Summoner pets, Herbie and Vulcan, and like all other pets in PSO2, are more than just adorable, weird friends. Herbie is a high-DEX Redran, and when facing a boss, grants benefits such as increased PP recovery, increased normal attack power, and faster Photon Arts casting! Vulcan, a Synchro, has a low critical hit rate, but a very high attack power when aggressive.

Along with these friendlier creatures, new Ultra enemies with rare and powerful weapon drops to acquire, and the powerful Luminmech, have been added with this update. Perhaps the perfect chance to test out the new Classes, or get together with friends and just have a good time!
Or you can celebrate the holidays and get together with a group of 12 to clear the “Christmas on Ice” quest at Naverius. The quest, and Quna’s wonderful Christmas Version of “Eternal Encore”, are available now.
One last major addition is typical of SEGA’s love of crossovers and Sonic: for $34.99, you can pick up the Tails Collaboration Pack. This pack comes with some appropriate two-tailed cosmetic items (the little fascinator is adorable), some new emotes, a Premium Set 30 Days Ticket, Mission Pass Gold Ticket, and other quality of life items. My favourite part of this pack is the wrench, a nod to Miles Prower’s love of mechanics, which is an equippable weapon!

Phew! And that’s only scratching the surface of Episode 6. For many other updates, events and login rewards, check out the official page for the new Episode for the lowdown on all of the little details.
If you’re a PSO2 fan, you’re probably already neck-deep in the new content, but if this all sounds interesting and you haven’t picked up the game, the MMO is available on Xbox One and Windows PC via the Microsoft Store and Steam.
