Final Fantasy XIV scenario writer Natsuko Ishikawa recently revealed in an interview with Famitsu that detailed but smaller scale story content related to the events of the Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker expansion is set to come to the MMORPG.
Endwalker was exceptionally well received by both critics and players, and whilst I’m sure many fans can’t wait for more Endwalker story content, Ishikawa was unable to give a release date during the interview.
ENDWALKER SPOILERS FOLLOW!
Whilst talking with Famitsu, Ishikawa gave some detailed explanations of some of the plot points for Endwalker. The writer explained that had Hermes not initiated The Final Days, the world of Final Fantasy XIV would likely have ended up resembling something similar to that of which was shown in the Dead Ends dungeon featured in the latest expansion.
Ishikawa also explained that Emet-Selch’s final words were in fact a message to the rest of the writing team of FFXIV. The purpose of the message was to convey that the story wasn’t over, and that the team should look to continue creating stories with previously existing lore and material from the world of Final Fantasy XIV. At this point lead story designer, Banri Oda, added to the conversation mentioning that additional unexplored continents already exist within FFXIV‘s world. [Editor’s Note: Meracydia when?]

What’s Next for Battles in Final Fantasy XIV?
FFXIV producer and director Naoki Yoshida has addressed concerns regarding the future of major battles within the MMORPG. Yoshida stated that there are various possibilities, as past entries in the series have had players face a range of different foes including the personification of the void. He also stressed that he felt it was important not to continually inflate the scale of the story, and that making players battle even stronger bosses wasn’t necessarily the best idea for the game.
We don’t have much longer to wait for more Endwalker content, as Patch 6.1: Newfound Adventure is on track for a mid-April release. Learn more about the next major patch in our previous coverage.
