Parasite Eve Could Be Coming Back (If That’s How You Read Into This Trademark Filing)

There’s a new trademark filing by Square Enix on Chizai Watch for something called “Symbiogenesis,” which many believe to be referring to Parasite Eve, that beloved horror RPG series based on a novel by Hideaki Sena. Symbiogenesis refers to the merging of two organisms into one, Gematsu found, which definitely tracks with the series’ subject matter.

If (and that’s a big if) Parasite Eve is coming back, we don’t yet know if Symbiogenesis indicates a remaster, a remake, or a series collection. There’s the first game that came out in 1998 on the original PlayStation, Parasite Eve II in 2000, and The 3rd Birthday, the PlayStation Portable-exclusive entry from 2011 that hardly anyone seems to like.

In what could either be a coincidence or a sign that my mitochondria have grown conscious and are manipulating me, I happen to be playing the original game for the first time on my Vita. It’s lovely and it should be made available on modern platforms. With the announcement of Suikoden I + II HD Remaster, anything is possible.

Peep our reviews of Parasite Eve, Parasite Eve II, and The 3rd Birthday if you’d like to learn more, and stay tuned to RPGFan for more news on old-school RPGs coming back!
